Every year the enterprise value specialists at Ceibass pay close attention to the Lawn & Landscape Top 100 Companies.

Recently the 2020 Lawn & Landscape Top 100 was announced. It is based on 2019 revenue from landscape profit centers. Most information is reported by each company listed, and supplemental data are sourced from public records and reporting by L&L staff.

Companies on the list earned a combined revenue of $11,042,808,036 in 2019, which is an increase of $821,072,893 or 8.3%. That’s up from 6.27% growth last year.

“Many of the companies on the Top 100 list have used acquisition as a strategy for growth. There were many active buyers on the list. Of course that was before the pandemic,” said Tom Fochtman, Ceibass CEO. “The level of interest in growth from acquisition was at an all time high in 2019 and it has slowed way down in 2020 because of COVID-19. But we are seeing a renewal in inquiries and interest as the future becomes clearer. After all, lawn and landscape is doing really well. Money is still inexpensive, opportunities abound for the ‘right’ companies to be acquired. What’s right? It just depends on how your company fits or doesn’t fit into a buyer’s strategic plan.”

Companies on the list also reported total employment of 112,101. The states with the most Top 100 companies are California (14), Texas (12), Illinois (9), Florida (6), Maryland (6), and Arizona (5). For 11th year in a row, California is home to the most companies on the list.

“The other thing to note is that the level of professionalism and business acumen is very high. These companies have upped their games, hired top notch professionals, are planning masters and have articulated clear goals and strategies for their growth,” added Tom. “And many have expanded their capital inventories to include new products and services.”
